The desert getaway of La Quinta Resort & Club has attracted globetrotters and Hollywood elite since its opening in 1926. Beginning with a modest 20 “casitas” spread over 45 acres the resort has steadily grown to what it is today with 796 casitas, suites and villas. Many of the casitas and suites have a pool within steps of your door and several offer fireplaces for those cooler evenings during the winter months.
With the Santa Rosa Mountains as its backdrop La Quinta Resort & Club is a pleasure to behold at any time of year with sunrises and sunsets bathing the property, and the mountains, in shades of pink and gold. The sight of flame red bougainvillea growing against the whitewashed walls of the buildings will transport you to the Mediterranean and the palm trees, lit after dark, beckon you to spend an evening around the pool. The landscaping throughout the resort is expertly manicured showcasing the tremendous pride the groundskeepers take in their work.
Activities at the resorts include 21 tennis courts, 41 swimming pools, 53 whirlpool spas along with 90 holes of golf, with two courses on-property and three additional courses at nearby PGA West designed by Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman.
And there is walking…lots of walking. The resort is expansive and getting from one place to another is sure to keep your fitness tracker humming. At the end of the day the world class spa services will help work out any kinks you earned from your time on the court or on the links. If some time spent shopping is your preferred activity then the seven shops and boutiques at La Quinta are sure to provide an upscale shopping experience.
Guests at the resort will enjoy a wide range of indoor/outdoor options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktail hour. With seven restaurants on the property you are sure to find something that will satisfy your appetite from great Mexican fare at the Adobe Grill to a fine dining experience at the resorts signature restaurant, Morgan’s in the Desert.
There are also two off-property restaurants…Ernie’s Bar & Grill with views of the 9th. and 18th. holes of the Nicklaus Tournament Course and Wallaby’s West at the Greg Norman Clubhouse with its stunning panoramic desert vistas. No matter where you choose to dine, on or off the property, the staff at all of the restaurants welcome you like family.
If your vision of the desert is an energy sapping no man’s land think again. To be sure, the summers are triple digit sweltering and arid so for those not used to extreme heat it can be a challenge. However, if you book your stay in the cooler months (October – February) you will be treated to warm days and cool evenings.
Keep in mind however that room rates are higher in the cooler “on season” months so book your stay well in advance to enjoy this one-of-a-kind resort and the stark beauty of the surrounding landscape.
