Boulder Colorado is a city at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is famous for its trail-lined Flatirons, craggy rock formations overlooking the city and the diverse year-round outdoor activities. Pearl Street, downtown’s pedestrian Mall offers art galleries, cafes, restaurants and boutiques.


Boulder checks many of the boxes that adventurous and activity-minded travelers enjoy. Its close proximity to great rock climbing, hiking, road and mountain biking as well as river rafting make it an outdoor lovers paradise. And of course…there is abundant skiing when Mother Nature turns the thermostat down.

The campus of UC Boulder is universally admired for its Italianate style of architecture with sandstone walls, red tile roofs, and wrought iron accents. It is also recognized as one of the most environmentally conscious college campuses in the nation.

Over the years Boulder has established itself as a great destination for food lovers of all stripes. Here you can find everything from great street tacos to high end dining on rooftop terraces. Pearl Street Mall alone contains dozens of great places for breakfast, lunch, dinner or an afternoon cocktail and was named one of the “10 Best Foodie Streets in America” by Food & Wine magazine.

Boulder is also rich in history, culture and the arts in addition to having a great live music scene. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year and a distinct four-season climate, it’s no wonder Boulder hosts so many arts and cultural events. Numerous plays and concerts are often performed under a sky full of stars, while several festivals are held with the backdrop of the majestic Flatirons. With a year-round calendar of events, there is sure to be a gallery, museum or live music event that will capture your spirit.


Locals and travelers alike have long known that Boulder is a great town that truly offers something for anyone interested in culture, food, music, and the arts. And of course…the great outdoors. 

Road Biking | There is no shortage of road bike opportunities in and around Boulder. From getting around town on the network of bike friendly roads or cruising through the UC Boulder campus to hitting the numerous mountain roads outside of town there is a venue for every roadie enthusiast.

Mountain Biking | From the lower elevation foothills, rolling grasslands and open meadows to numerous trails in the ponderosa pine forests, mountain biking in Boulder is truly a year-round activity. When the fluffy stuff starts to fall just swap out your off-roaders for a set of winter studs or fat tires and hit the snowy trails.

Hiking | If hiking is your passion you will not be disappointed with the wealth and variety of world-class trails in the foothills and mountains above Boulder. From a morning sprint close to town or an all-day outing above 8000 feet, the surrounding trails are sure to provide you with a great experience.

Rock Climbing | With an incredible variety of rock type in the mountains around Boulder, there is sure to be a surface for every climber and climbing style. From year-round routes to ice climbing in the winter, the diversity of options has cemented Boulders reputation as a paradise for the vertically inclined.

Snow Skiing | There are eight world-class ski resorts within two hours of Boulder catering to every level of skier and snowboarder from bunny slopers to Black Diamond shredders. Closer to home and a short 21 miles from town, Eldora Ski Resort is proudly considered by Boulderites as their “local” ski hill.

White Water Rafting |  While there is no whitewater rafting in the immediate Boulder area there are plenty of options from exciting fun-for-all-ages tubing to Class III, IV and V runs within hours of the Boulder and Denver areas. If whitewater rafting has been on your bucket list there is no better place to give it your first try.

In Boulder, the summers are warm; the winters are very cold, dry, and windy; and it is partly cloudy year round. Temperature typically varies from 22°F to 87°F and is rarely below 6°F or above 95°F.

Boulder’s public transportation system, RTD (Regional Transportation District) was named the nation’s Best Public Transportation in 2008. It’s convenient and inexpensive. We didn’t get to use it.
